Born in northwest Florida, Troy Urquhart received his B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of West Florida. He serves as Dean of the Upper School at Montverde Academy, an independent international boarding school in central Florida. Previously, he taught courses in writing and American literature at Montverde Academy and Fort Walton Beach High School, and he served as Director of Professional Development and as Dean of Students at Montverde.

Troy is the author of Springtime Sea Bathing (Greying Ghost Press, 2010), a former contributor to Vouched Books, and a former editor of the journal Willows Wept Review. His poetry has appeared in journals including PANK Magazine, NCTE's English Journal, Mud Luscious, elimae, and > kill author. His scholarly publications include articles in Twentieth-Century Literature, The Literary EncyclopediaRomanticism on the Net, and The Explicator as well as reviews for PANK Magazine and The Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature. His freelance writing has included work for Houghton Mifflin and for Freedom Communications.

Since 2005, he has served as a reader and table leader for the College Board's Advanced Placement English Language and Composition examination. He also served as a faculty advisor for the Thoreau Society, contributing to the curriculum to accompany the documentary film Life with Principle.

Troy is a certified Level I coach with USA Track and Field, and he has served as head coach of the Cross Country teams and as assistant coach of the Track and Field teams at Montverde Academy since 2006. Troy is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Modern Language Association, USA Track and FieldFlorida Athletic Coaches Association, Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity, the Cum Laude Society, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
